Area InfoVillas for rent in La Garde Freinet
La Garde Freinet, often known as the gateway to St Tropez, is situated just north of the glamorous beach resorts. But La Garde Freinet is far from a lunchtime stop over. It has a character all its own dominated by the 450 metre Fort Freinet offering panoramic views over the Provence landscape, down to the coast and even to the Alps in the distance. Also in view are vast areas of vines and olive trees, cork oaks and chestnut trees representing the four crops grown locally. There are literally hundreds of small vineyards producing an excellent range at a very reasonable price. La Garde Freinet has history going back to the 11th century and many of the original buildings are still standing in the picturesque streets which surround the village square. This is the hub of the town, buzzing both day and night with cafes, shops and restaurants. The art scene also flourishes with galleries and artists seemingly on every corner.
